GITA 11.33
We are now in an important sannidhi of Sri Karvanam Perumal [ஸ்ரீ கார் வானம் பெருமாள்] in this temple. If we go around this sannidhi, we would have gone around all the sannidhis. As we enter the temple, the multi colored Rajagopuram welcomes us.
GOPURAM |
On the left is the sannidhi of Alwars and Acharyas. Next is Sri Neermegatthan or Sri Neervannan sannidhi. As we go round clockwise, we worship Sri Karagtthan and Sri Karvaanatthan [ஸ்ரீ கார் வானத்தான்]. Between these sannidhis is the sannidhi of Sri Aranavalli Thayar. A very astonishing vimanam as large as Rajagopuram.
VIMANAM |
It is splendid with sapta [7] kalasams. Before we try to know about the Lord of Karvaanam [கார் வானம்], we should look at the sky or space. Space appears with white or black clouds, or clear. We are to see space with black clouds. We earlier saw Karagam, where kar indicates black and agam indicates residence. We saw the Lord as the abode of black [rain bearing] clouds. Here, it is about the deep blue sky or space. So we can say this sky is where the black cloud is. Sky has some salient features different from cloud. Just like we are supported by ground, clouds are supported by sky. Rain water is in cloud and cloud is in sky. If we take a total view, we had worshiped Sri Neeragatthan, representing water. We also worshiped Sri Karagatthan, representing cloud. Now, we are worshiping Sri Karvaanatthan, representing sky. When the Lord took the form of Sri Trivikrama, His image was gigantic going beyond sky. When His foot was raised up beyond sky, water was offered to cleanse His foot. So water, cloud and sky were all seen together. So He is Sri Trivikrama; He is Water; He is cloud; and, He is Sky. Thus, He is worshiped by those in sky, by those in this earth bound by water, and by those in between in the clouds. We will now see what quality was exhibited by the Lord of this Divya desam to Alwar. We have seen that the Lord of each Divya desam displyed a unique quality of Him to Tirumangai Alwar. Sri Neeragatthan showed His life sustaining quality, like water - sarvopajeevyam. In Sri Karagatthan, we saw His quality of all approaching Him - sarva samasrayaneeyatvam. Here in Sri Karvaanatthan, Alwar saw the quality of voluntarily showering without discriminating, land or water [jalasthala vibhaga architta nirapeksham]. Clouds shower not waiting for anyone to request. This is called architta nirapeksham. It showers voluntarily. Like that Sri Trivikrama placed His divine foot, even without our prayer for placing His feet on our heads. It is also like a mother fondlingly caring for the child and not waiting for the child to make a request. Neither the child also formally thanked for the care of the mother. We also never pray clouds to shower, nor we thank the clouds for the shower. We neither prayed the Lord to place His feet on us nor we ever thanked Him for placing His Divine feet on us. Clouds shower without disrimination, be on earth or be on water. The Lord showers His mercy similarly without any discrimination.
SRI KAARVAANATTHAN |
Thus in Sri Karvaanatthan, we see the Two qualities of blessing even when not asked for and blessing without discrimination. We see all these qualities in the Lord in Viswaroopam.
Arjuna asked the Lord in Viswaroopam as Who He was with such frightening appearance? What was the purpose? For this the Lord replied in slokas 32, 33 and 34. In sloka 32, the Lord told He was the Time or Destiny, to finish off these wicked persons, even if Arjuna were not there. Therefore, Arjuna enquired what was his role? In sloka 33, the Lord replied that Arjuna was just a tool for the Lord to kill them, and so Arjuna could as well be ready to fight. Now sloka 34:
dronam ca bhismam ca jayadratham ca
karnam tathanyan api yodha-viran
maya hatams tvam jahi ma vyathistha
yudhyasva jetasi rane sapatnan
karnam tathanyan api yodha-viran
maya hatams tvam jahi ma vyathistha
yudhyasva jetasi rane sapatnan
"Drona, Bhishma, Jayadratha, Karna and the other great warriors have already been destroyed by Me. Therefore, kill them and do not be disturbed. Simply fight, and you will vanquish your enemies in battle."
